How do you find the time?

I know that I have mentioned on here about not having the time for this or that, or for that fact anything, but its true.  I was thinking about all of the things that I need to get done in this house and I wonder how I am going to get any of it done.  Whenever I am not at work I am here at the house with the kids (while the wife is working.  I cannot just leave them alone to their own devices.  They would either beat each other up or destroy the house.

I have a list of things that need doing to and in this house and I just cannot find two seconds to do any of it.  I have things like:

  • Replace all outlets in the house (they are presently all 2 prong and loose, except for the couple I have changed already)
  • Change outside light on side of house (the one there turns itself off in seconds after being turned on)
  • Hang new light fixture in dining room.
  • build shed (bought it last year, havent had a second to do it this year)
  • paint bathroom (had surrounds put in and bath area reworked a while ago, still haven't had a chance to paint the green board)
  • Replace door bell on side door.
  • Seal basement for winter
Those are a number of things and I am sure I could add a bunch more to it.   All in all though, the biggest project I have that was started quite some time ago and is still not done is my basement.  I want to finish it and turn a good portion of it into a home office.  Well, a lot of work went into what is down there but we are only 1/2 (maybe) finished.  It is so stalled I don't know how to revive it but REALLY need to.

Well, one of these days (hopefully soon), I will start finding more time to hit some of these projects and get them completed.  If I ever get my home office finished it will be SWEET!!!  Anyone wanna get some home improvement practice?  I could sure use the help.

Time? What's that?

Let's think about this. How much time is there in a day? 86,400 seconds. 1440 minutes. 24 hours. Any way you look at it, there is a fair amount of time in each day. Now, if that is the case, why is it that I cannot find the time to do what needs to be done?

Sure, I go to work during the day while my wife watches the kids. I come home and watch the kids while my wife works. On the weekends, I watch the kids on Saturday and Sunday while my wife works and we tag team when she gets home.

If you haven't noticed, there is a common theme in there, and I am not referring to the work part either. Its the kids! Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE my kids, but I must say that they are the ultimate cause of why our house is in such disarray. They are so incredibly precocious and active that most of our time is spent trying to keep them under control. Sure, we could take them out places, and do, wearing them out considerably, but that doesn't do the house any good.

A couple of weeks ago my wonderful wife picked me up a Wii as a really early birthday gift. Do you realize that it sat in its box until only this past Sunday? It wasn't until then that I actually found the time ( and most of all the energy) to hook it up.

Energy is the key you see. Whilst your children are themselves expending energy while playing and running around, they do seem to have quite the almost unending supply of the stuff(about equal to the amount of energy a nuclear reactor can produce), while we adults have the equivelant of a cell phone battery. We are great on standby(while relaxing), but when you get us going we tend to wear down a lot quicker than kids. Its amazing how completely exhausted they can make you.

Kids are great, but they really need to invent an energy boost that adults can have surgically implanted.
